Right, here goes, lets hope my memory is good enough. I have seen at least, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or so films =) I think!
Lets start with Confessions of a Shopaholic, its a good film, enjoyable and funny though admittably not amazing. I had heard good and bad things about this film, and I thought I would try it as Isla Fisher normally picks good films and brings her particular charm to the role, creating a witty funny young girl.
The clue is in the title, the film is about a young woman aspiring to be a fashion journalist. She absoloutly adores clothes, accessories and everything fashion related, so much so that she is in lots of debt.
She finds an opening in the fashion magazine she loves, but soon discovers that it has been filled. The helpful receptionist points out that once you are in, you can work your way up the ladder and so she tries out for a job in a sister magazine and is succssful.
Though the job is to give finacial advice, not her strong point. The film continues with many twists and lessons being learnt, there is a best friend who wants her in a hideous bridesmaid dress, shopping therapy and of course, a love interest. Worth watching if you like the genre and that kind of story.
I also got Pinnaple Express for christmas, again Seth Rogen picks great films and always funny ones, so I thought I'd try it. It's an odd film, quirky and drug fueled. It is about a guy who likes his weed and becomes a witness to a murder whilst smoking some.
Though as he had rare weed only sold by his dealer, and he leaves it at the scene after crashing his car a few times trying to make a quick escape, he soon realises that the murderer's will easily be able to track him down.
So he goes on the run, taking his drug dealer with him, and dragging the supplier as well as his girlfriend into the messy situation. The film is full of action and the end has some good comedy and fighting scenes as well as big explosions. If you usually like Seth Rogan's films, and enjoy something a bit different, then your bound to love this humourous film.
Another film I recenly watched, purely out of random choice as my step dad and had been on the hunt for cheap DVDs. He spotten An Empress and a Warrior, an oriental film that he thought might be good. It involves war, a lot of skillful fighting and love.
If you like the war side of Gladiator, and the amazing skill of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, you will at least enjoy and appreciate this film. It isn't main stream or english but if thats your kind of thing, you'll like it.
Again, thanks to my step dad's DVD collection, and his action craving, we watched The Day The Earth Stood Still after An Empress and a Warrior. Keanu Reeves and Jennifer Connelly star in this remake, and in my step dads words, you can't compare the two films.
They are based on the same story, but a few things are in a different order and for example the robot in the original is only 8-9 feet tall, and in the new one, its a giant. The film is good, and interesting, as we watch the story play out and realise that aliens beileve we are destorying the planet and so plan to 'reset' the earth saving only two of every species, not including us.
Me and my step dad finally got round to watching Drag Me to Hell, and my god, its soooo funny. The old woman is halirious. Yes it is a horror, but she does and causes some daft things which you cant help but giggle at.
If you really don't like horrors, though this one isn't as bad as most, your still not likely to enjoy it because it is still a horror and has tension and weird scary things. But if you like horrors, this is tamer than most, kind of like a comedy horror, I'd recomend it if you like that kind of thing.
I still have a 'to do' list though, of DVDs that I got for christmas or borrowed and haven't gotten round to watching. These include Gossip, 27 Dresses, Iron Man and In her Shoes. If you've seen any of these films, let me know what you thought of them, without spoiling anything though =P
I know how late this is :/ I'm sorry, please forgive me. Again, i have some excuses...Sales shopping, and lots of it, its is just too tempting lol. I also met up with friends before I left home and had to pack my masses of stuff, but now I'm back, and revising lots, so hopefully I can catch up on this too =D
I would give The Empress and the Warrior a 3, I'm just not sure what it would come under lol.
